A LITTLE HELP

Frequently asked questions.

What is SpeakTab?

SpeakTab is music reading and practice software for blind musicians. It presents supported music as text for a screen reader or Braille display, with tools for moving through the music, hearing passages and keeping practice notes. The Windows version also has a composer.

Read the full feature set.

What kinds of music files can I open?

Both versions support Guitar Pro and MusicXML, including compressed MXL. They also support SpeakTab saved readings and suitable text files. A file must contain usable musical information: a scanned page or ordinary text alone does not automatically become a playable score.

Windows has additional PDF and AI-assisted workflows. The Android app cannot open PDFs directly. See the appropriate manual for format details and limitations.

Do I need ChatGPT or an internet connection?

No for local reading, notes and basic playback of supported score data. ChatGPT and other online AI features are optional and need an internet connection and an eligible account or API connection. Provider charges and limits can apply.

Does Android mean every Android device has been tested?

No. The Android app has been tested on BrailleSense 7. BrailleSense 6 and Android phones have not been tested. The supplied guide uses BrailleSense 7 controls.

What do string–fret pairs mean?

A pair such as 2-3 means string 2, fret 3. 1-0 means string 1 open; X means muted. These are string and fret numbers, not left-hand finger numbers. The app uses supplied fingerings; a pitch alone does not identify one unique guitar fingering.

How do I update the Android app?

Download the new APK and open it in File Manager. Choose Update over the existing installation. Do not uninstall first: uninstalling removes the app’s local readings and notes. Your existing readings and saved connection are kept by an ordinary update.

Why does the Windows download use Google Drive?

The full Windows ZIP is larger than this free website’s individual-file limit. Its link opens a public Google Drive download. Choose Download, save the ZIP, extract it, then open SpeakTab.exe. Read the Windows download steps. Manuals and the Android APK download directly from this site.

Is every imported note guaranteed to be correct?

No. Source quality and supported notation matter, and AI-assisted results can be wrong. Keep your original score and check uncertain passages. Software checks and successful device tests do not certify every piece of music.

How do I ask a question or report a problem?

Use the question form or contact email. Include Windows or Android, your app version, the device and what happened. For account help, describe the problem without sending passwords or API keys.
