EXPLORE SPEAKTAB
Make the music
easier to explore.
SpeakTab for Windows combines accessible reading, practice and composition. SpeakTab for Android focuses on reading and practice. Explore each app below to choose the features you need.
WHY SPEAKTAB
A different way to read and create music.
Built around accessible musical text
MuseScore already offers accessibility tools, multiple file formats and ways to read and write music. Wonderful specialist applications also support Braille music. SpeakTab was built with accessibility from the ground up around a different starting point: musical descriptions you can navigate with a keyboard, hear with a screen reader or read as ordinary text on a Braille display.
Sao Mai Braille (SMB) also offers descriptive text, speech, Braille and keyboard navigation for music. Its music translation uses MusicXML. SpeakTab offers direct import of supported Guitar Pro files into its own reading and practice tools, with natural-language composition in SpeakTab for Windows. These are different workflows; choose the tools that suit your music.
Open a supported score directly in the reader, choose a part and move through its notes, rhythms, chords and available lyrics. Reading an existing score does not require going through the composer. Supported formats come into the same reading experience, including standard notation and tablature for different instruments and voices.
Musical words for reading and composing
You do not need to know formal Braille music notation to read SpeakTab's descriptions. That gives musicians who find Braille music difficult another way to explore a score, while respecting the tools and expertise of those who use Braille music.
Some musicians also find note-entry syntax difficult to learn or remember. SpeakTab for Windows offers natural-language composition: describe supported music in musical words, inspect the proposed result and accept it when ready. Direct phrases work locally; broader ChatGPT interpretation is optional and connected.
SpeakTab can be used alongside other music programs. SpeakTab for Windows supports MusicXML import and export for exchanging music. Its text and Markdown readings let you take readable descriptions with you. SpeakTab for Android also lets you export readable text.
VERSION 1.0
SpeakTab for Windows
A music reader, practice space and composer for your Windows computer.
Read and explore scores
- Open supported instrumental and vocal scores directly in the reader. Explore notes, chords, rests, rhythms, available lyrics and supplied guitar TAB string and fret information.
- Move by musical position and measure. Inspect detailed music and opening facts such as tuning and capo.
- Use keyboard commands, a screen reader or a Braille display. SpeakTab's optional Windows Voice control provides supported spoken app commands.
Practise and keep your place
- Hear local practice previews, choose available sounds, change the speed, set a count-in and loop selected passages.
- Keep bookmarks and written practice notes.
- Work through guided lessons and supplied original practice samples.
Compose, save and share
- Use natural-language composition when note-entry syntax is difficult: describe supported notes, chords, rests, rhythms and lyrics in musical words, then review the proposed music before applying it. Direct supported phrases work locally; broader ChatGPT interpretation is optional and connected.
- Use keyboard entry and named controls in the composer. Compose for supported piano, guitar, ukulele, solo voice, strings, harp, percussion and ensembles.
- Save a working project and export MusicXML.
- Save text and Markdown readings for on-the-go reading on a compatible reader or device.
Recover music from PDFs
SpeakTab for Windows includes experimental PDF recognition and AI-assisted repair workflows. Recognised music can contain errors or missing passages; keep the original for comparison. The SpeakTab for Windows manual (Word) explains the available routes and limitations.

SpeakTab for Android
A focused music reader and practice app for use on an Android device.
Tested on BrailleSense 7
Read and navigate
- Import supported Guitar Pro, MusicXML/MXL and text readings, then select a part.
- Move between positions and measures. Go directly to a measure or a measure and beat, including decimal beats.
- Read supplied physical string and fret pairs, with zero meaning an open string. Staff-only notes retain pitch names.
- Recall tuning and capo, read detailed information and keep your current place.
Practise and keep notes
- Save accessible readings locally, with general notes, position notes and bookmarks.
- Save named whole-measure practice passages; jump to them or play them.
- Hear basic local playback of supported structured music with two sounds and speed from 25 to 200 percent.
- Export readable text, optionally including practice notes, and export the retained original file.
Playback follows written order once; printed repeats and expressive effects are not fully performed. Plain text alone does not provide playable notes.
Ask follow-up questions
Use optional written ChatGPT help with the whole open reading for the selected part, your current position and practice notes. Continue with follow-up questions and corrections.
Use app keyboard commands
SpeakTab for Android has a full set of app keyboard commands for reading, navigation, playback and practice, so you can use these functions directly without repeatedly moving through Android controls. Find the keystroke list from each screen, including Braille dot references. System dialogs and browser sign-in use their own controls.
SpeakTab for Android has been tested on BrailleSense 7. BrailleSense 6 and Android phones have not been tested. For composition or experimental PDF recognition, use SpeakTab for Windows.

Optional AI help in each SpeakTab app.
Reading and local practice do not require ChatGPT. Optional online AI features require an internet connection and an eligible service connection, with the provider's limits and any charges.
SpeakTab for Windows
Ask written ChatGPT questions about your music or use the separate spoken AI teacher. The spoken teacher uses its own API connection. The composer also offers optional ChatGPT interpretation of broader musical requests; direct supported composition phrases work locally.
SpeakTab for Android
Choose a ChatGPT-plan connection or an explicitly selected OpenAI API key for written questions. Each question includes the whole open reading for the selected part, its current position, supplied string and fret information, and practice notes. Completed questions and answers stay in the conversation for follow-up corrections. A request that exceeds the app's size limit is reported rather than silently cutting the music.
AI answers and transcriptions can be mistaken; check them against the music.
BRING YOUR MUSIC
Start with a supported file.
SpeakTab for Windows: supported Guitar Pro, MusicXML/MXL, MuseScore, text TAB and chord or lyric charts, plus PDF workflows.
SpeakTab for Android: Guitar Pro 3/4/5, GPX and newer GP, MusicXML/MXL, native SpeakTab saved text, plain text and SpeakTab Markdown.
Support depends on the file’s contents and the importer. A file opening successfully does not certify its musical accuracy. Try the manuals and original practice files for a first reading.
